It is often too easy to think of missions in terms of geography. Our first attempt to understand where a missionary serves is to look it up on a map. But missions should be thought of in terms of people groups, not location. In The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), Jesus tells us to make disciples of all people groups -- the literal interpretation of “all nations”.
So how do we fulfill this commission here at Bethel, here in Houston, TX?
I think the best opportunity most of us will have is by reaching someone who is an international student at a local university.
Let’s remember, many of these students are destined to be tomorrow's world leaders. Often they return to high places of influence in government, education, or business. Many past and present presidents, prime ministers, and princes from around the world have studied at American colleges. It’s also common that students come here from countries "closed" to traditional missions and missionaries.
Some studies show that as many as seven out of ten international students will never enter an American home outside the university community. What an incredible opportunity we are missing to change someone’s eternal perspective!
Well, here’s your chance to fulfill Jesus’ calling...
The International Student Ministry here in Houston has begun a new school year and students from around the world will be in attendance in our local community. Want to get involved?
